Why Do I Still Owe the IRS on Taxes From Over 10 Years Ago?

The 10 year statue of limitations can be reset or paused, so there are a few reasons why you may still owe...

There are certain actions that taxpayers can take which prohibit the IRS from collecting...

...and so the 10-year SOL is suspended until such actions are completed and the IRS can once again collect. 

Filing a bankruptcy or petition in court can cause the suspension of the statute of limitations. 

Filing a Collection Due Process Appeal or an Offer in Compromise can also suspend the SOL.
